I'm very pleased to present 60 celebratory, light filled paintings in this solo exhibition, once again being held at the Russell Gallery. This exhibition consists of paintings from home and from my overseas trips. I'll be exhibiting gouache paintings for the first time, and also my largest painting yet - 'The May Queen' which measures 44" x 54" (without its frame!)
‘Way back home’ brings together a series of paintings shaped by both distance and intimacy. Oil and gouache paintings from my travels in the USA, India and Europe as well as closer to home in Cornwall and the Cotswolds, sit alongside light filled paintings from home. The space in between the trips is when I return to my quiet sanctuary in Lincolnshire, and create intimate paintings in my kitchen, garden and studio.
At it’s heart, way back home marks not only a return to a physical space, but also of rediscovering a sense of self. These works reflect a period of change and newfound independence- an unfolding path towards freedom, where travel and home are no longer opposites, but part of the same journey inward.
I really hope you can get to Putney to see the paintings in person, but if not you can view the work online by clicking on the button below. All paintings must be purchased through Sarah Russell from the Russell Gallery, after May 20th.
